Dubai is home to more than 900 completed high-rise buildings, with almost 90 of them standing taller than 180 metres - and the number is growing.
It will come as no surprise to most that the Burj Khalifa is the tallest of them, being the tallest building in the world and all.
But the world number one's days as the one tower to rule them all are numbered. Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia is charging ever upward and is planned to top out at 1 kilometre high.

Expected to be completed by 2019, the tower will knock Burj Khalifa off the top spot, with about 170 metres to spare.
Not one to be completely outdone, the UAE's Dubai Creek Tower is expected to be 928 metres tall and is scheduled for completion around 2021, pushing Burj Khalifa down to third tallest and nestling in just under Jeddah Tower.
But for now, let's bask in the glory of our sky-high spires and imposing skyline.
Here are the five tallest towers in the UAE:
1. Burj Khalifa, 828 metres
The monstrous Burj Khalifa was completed in January 2009 and overtook the current second tallest building in the world - the Shanghai Tower in China - by almost 200 metres. The spear of Downtown Dubai is comprised of 163 floors and was built in five years. It will have reigned as the tallest tower in the world for 10 years by the time the Jeddah Tower is expected to be finished.
2. Marina 101, 426m
At almost half the height of Burj Khalifa, Marina 101 stands at 426m and is the second-tallest tower in Dubai, falling just short of the top 20 tallest buildings worldwide.
The tower was completed in 2016 and is made up of 101 floors (the clue is in the name).
It is the tallest residential building in the world, edging 432 Park Avenue in New York out by a single metre.
3. Princess Tower, 414m
Around the corner from Marina 101 and nestled in the high-rise neighbourhood of Dubai Marina, sits the third tallest tower in Dubai: Princess Tower.
Offering stellar views of the city's coast, and eventually a front row seat to the Dubai Eye, Princess Tower is 414m tall and held the title of tallest residential building in the world from 2012 to 2015, before being overtaken by 432 Park Avenue in New York and eventually Marina 101.

4. 23 Marina, 393m
Dubai’s fourth tallest tower, standing at almost 393m, is 23 Marina. Completed in 2012, the building was popular even before it was built with 79 per cent of the space sold before construction began. The 92-storey tower was built in six years and sits between Dubai Marina and Dubai Media City. It is the third tallest residential building in the world.
5. Burj Mohammed bin Rashid 382m
The capital's first entry into the list: Burj Mohammed bin Rashid. Raking the sky at 381m, it stands 60 metres taller than Abu Dhabi's next entry: The Landmark - which is the 18th tallest building in the country.
