A man has drowned while swimming at a beach in Umm Al Quwain over the weekend.
The tragedy happened in the Al Khor area on Friday as the victim enjoyed the day with three friends.
Police were called to the scene after the Asian man, in his 20s, failed to make it back to shore. It is not yet known why he drowned.
“A search and rescue operation was launched in collaboration with the coastguards and divers from the UAE rescue group,” said Lt Col Mohammed Buharun, of UAQ Police.
“The body was found on Saturday morning and was moved to UAQ hospital.”
Lt Col Buharun urged the public to avoid swimming at night and in poor weather conditions.
