The Sheikh Khalifa Marine Research Centre will increase the number of young fish it produces to its maximum capacity of 10 million by 2017 to help ease the pressure placed on the country’s fish stocks by the increasing population, as well as other factors.
The Centre will contribute significantly to studies and research on the protection of the marine environment and biodiversity in general, and in the advancement of the aquaculture industry and fish farming in particular.
By increasing its contribution to national production to about 25 per cent by 2021, it will allow the UAE to maintain its leading regional position in this field, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
