Multi-tasking is an important part of reporting

This week started with a story idea that involved activity and driving to the middle of the desert.

For a while, I forgot that I am 31 weeks pregnant and went ahead with my first desert adventure. The moment I arrived at the bumpy roads, it hit me.

I realised that I am not in good shape for covering this story. I immediately withdrew and decided to be careful with my choice of story ideas in the future.

This week I covered two different stories with two different colleagues. Working as part of a group is very different than just depending on your own thoughts and ideas. You learn to respect others’ points of view and have an idea of what kind of angles they are focusing on.

The whole experience is great, especially when someone gets lost and the other one tries to show them the right way.

So I did my interviews and wrote the story all in the same day. I have been told that this is what a reporter is supposed to be ready for – multi-tasking. I should also be ready to accept desk tasks at the same time, too.

Well, I am able to do all of that. I am a mom, a wife and a reporter all at the same time. Maybe I am that kind of a person after all.
