Prince will release a new album next month. Described as a mix "of soul, R&B and funk", Art Official Age will be his first album since 2010's 20Ten. It is due to be released on September 30 on Warner Brothers Records – the label he was signed to from 1978 until the mid-1990s – with which he had been locked in a legal battle to win back the rights to his music until a deal was finally reached in April. The singer will also release the album PlectrumElectrum with his all-female band 3RDEYEGIRL on the same day. The agreement with the label comes years after their relationship turned sour. Prince changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol and wrote the word "slave" on his cheek when he failed to gain the rights to his music. – AP
Miley aims to become a force for change

Fresh off of her memorable appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, when as a social statement she sent a homeless man up to collect her award for video of the year, Miley Cyrus says she now wants to use her powers for good. The 21-year-old singer, who is assisting the Hollywood homeless centre My Friend's Place by launching a charity raffle, says that she didn't realise her impact and influence, but now is urging her fans to donate to help homeless youth. "After my last performance at the VMAs, I didn't realise my platform, I didn't realise my power and I didn't realise my voice and how loud it is," Cyrus said. "And I thought ... instead of using it as a negative, how can I use it as a positive? If I'm going to be speaking this loud, what am I trying to scream at the world? I feel incredible today. I feel like I have a jet strapped to me and I am ready to take off from this. It just gives me more of a purpose." Cyrus is asking fans to donate US$5 (Dh18), which will enter them in a raffle and the winners will meet her at her concert in Rio de Janeiro on September 28. – AP

David Bowie transformed into comic-book hero
He's played an alien and a vampire, and now David Bowie is set to star as a superhero. Well, sort of. A comic book biography of the British music icon is being released by Bluewater Productions. It is the latest in a series of biographical comic books from the publisher featuring pop and rock stars, including Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse and Freddie Mercury. US football hero to publish his memoirs
The football hero Tim Howard has signed a book deal. The American sportsman, who plays in goal for the United States national team and English Premier League side Everton, has written a memoir that will be published on December 9 by HarperCollins. The publisher said The Keeper would be available in adult and young-adult editions. The 35-year-old footballer says he wanted to share the highs and lows of his life and career, including his battles with Tourette's syndrome, and hopes to inspire others. World Cup fans were dazzled this summer by Howard's 15 saves during the Americans' 2-1 loss in extra time to Belgium in the second round, after he helped the side qualify from the initial group stages. Producer praises Vikram’s commitment to film
The producer Aascar Ravichandran says he is in awe of the actor Vikram's commitment in the forthcoming Tamil action-thriller Ai, which the star has spent more than two years shooting. "Vikram is the embodiment of commitment," Ravichandran said. "I haven't seen an actor who has spent more than two years on a project. Vikram is an exception when it comes to his dedication towards a film. Never did he complain about the time invested in the project. For one particular look in the film, Vikram was required to spend 12 hours in the make-up room for many days. He sports three different looks in the film." One of those looks is that of a werewolf. The New Zealand special-effects company Weta Workshop, which worked on The Lord of the Rings trilogy, worked on the effects in Ai. "Make-up and special effects will be the biggest highlights of the film. Audiences will be amazed," said Ravichandran. The film is due for release next month. – IANS

Tips on buying property during a pandemic

While many have been quick to call a market collapse, this simply isn’t what we’re seeing on the ground. Many pockets of the global property market, including London and the UAE, continue to be compelling locations to invest in real estate.
While an air of uncertainty remains, the outlook is far better than anyone could have predicted. However, it is still important to consider the wider threat posed by Covid-19 when buying bricks and mortar.
Anything with outside space, gardens and private entrances is a must and these property features will see your investment keep its value should the pandemic drag on. In contrast, flats and particularly high-rise developments are falling in popularity and investors should avoid them at all costs.
Attractive investment property can be hard to find amid strong demand and heightened buyer activity. When you do find one, be prepared to move hard and fast to secure it. If you have your finances in order, this shouldn’t be an issue.
Lenders continue to lend and rates remain at an all-time low, so utilise this. There is no point in tying up cash when you can keep this liquidity to maximise other opportunities.
Keep your head and, as always when investing, take the long-term view. External factors such as coronavirus or Brexit will present challenges in the short-term, but the long-term outlook remains strong.
Finally, keep an eye on your currency. Whenever currency fluctuations favour foreign buyers, you can bet that demand will increase, as they act to secure what is essentially a discounted property.

Ziina users can donate to relief efforts in Beirut
Ziina users will be able to use the app to help relief efforts in Beirut, which has been left reeling after an August blast caused an estimated $15 billion in damage and left thousands homeless. Ziina has partnered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to raise money for the Lebanese capital, co-founder Faisal Toukan says. “As of October 1, the UNHCR has the first certified badge on Ziina and is automatically part of user's top friends' list during this campaign. Users can now donate any amount to the Beirut relief with two clicks. The money raised will go towards rebuilding houses for the families that were impacted by the explosion.”

Brunch has been around, is some form or another, for more than a century. The word was first mentioned in print in an 1895 edition of Hunter’s Weekly, after making the rounds among university students in Britain. The article, entitled Brunch: A Plea, argued the case for a later, more sociable weekend meal. “By eliminating the need to get up early on Sunday, brunch would make life brighter for Saturday night carousers. It would promote human happiness in other ways as well,” the piece read. “It is talk-compelling. It puts you in a good temper, it makes you satisfied with yourself and your fellow beings, it sweeps away the worries and cobwebs of the week.” More than 100 years later, author Guy Beringer’s words still ring true, especially in the UAE, where brunches are often used to mark special, sociable occasions.

The more serious side of specialty coffee
While the taste of beans and freshness of roast is paramount to the specialty coffee scene, so is sustainability and workers’ rights.
The bulk of genuine specialty coffee companies aim to improve on these elements in every stage of production via direct relationships with farmers. For instance, Mokha 1450 on Al Wasl Road strives to work predominantly with women-owned and -operated coffee organisations, including female farmers in the Sabree mountains of Yemen.
Because, as the boutique’s owner, Garfield Kerr, points out: “women represent over 90 per cent of the coffee value chain, but are woefully underrepresented in less than 10 per cent of ownership and management throughout the global coffee industry.”
