Russian customs have detained an Emirati man and a Bangladeshi man for trying to smuggle 29 rare falcons, worth about Dh466,000, out of the country.
Customs said the two men took the birds to Russia to avoid the UAE's harsh summer and planned to return them in autum, a Russian news agency reported.
An examination of the birds two months later found that many of the identification rings gave different ages, genders and even species.
The men face up to seven years in prison if found guilty. The birds were taken to a sanctuary.

Studying addiction
This month, Dubai Medical College launched the Middle East’s first master's programme in addiction science.
Together with the Erada Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation, the college offers a two-year master’s course as well as a one-year diploma in the same subject.
