DUBAI // A public relations officer from India has been charged with sexually molesting an eight-year-old girl in an apartment building in the al Rifaa area. QM, 39, denied the charges yesterday in the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance. Prosecution records asserted that on May 31 QM hugged the child outside her residence and touched her inappropriately. The victim's father, a 39-year-old executive, also from India, told prosecutors that one of his daughter's friends approached him while his child was at play and told him that a man was embracing his daughter.
He said he then rushed outside and caught QM with her. The father told prosecutors that QM asked him not to report the incident to the police. Police records in the prosecution case file showed that QM confessed to the crime and admitted hugging the girl because she reminded him of his own children. The court is expected to issue its verdict on October 5. amustafa@thenational.ae

- Jebel Akhdar is a two-hour drive from Muscat airport or a six-hour drive from Dubai. It’s impossible to visit by car unless you have a 4x4. Phone ahead to the hotel to arrange a transfer.

The rules on fostering in the UAE
A foster couple or family must:
- be Muslim, Emirati and be residing in the UAE
- not be younger than 25 years old
- not have been convicted of offences or crimes involving moral turpitude
- be free of infectious diseases or psychological and mental disorders
- have the ability to support its members and the foster child financially
- undertake to treat and raise the child in a proper manner and take care of his or her health and well-being
