ABU DHABI // Police have urged the public to report beggars and said the practice is a “scourge and nuisance that gives way to manipulation and fraud” as well as it reflecting “negatively on the civilised image of the country”.
Lieutenant Colonel Mubarak Bin Muheiroom, head of the Community Police Department at Abu Dhabi Police, said the issue will be targeted during a radio campaign called “Security Flashes”.
The head officer said that beggars are deploying various methods to win people’s sympathy and manipulating them into giving money and often also indulging in petty crime, such as theft.
He urged residents to cooperate with police to combat begging.
